Cupcakes make the world go round, if you ask us. There are so many different types, sizes, and tastes that we can eat them all day. We enjoy almost any cupcake, but there are a few things that stand out and make a standard cupcake a great cupcake. After many tastings of cupcakes from many different shops and homemade batches, we have decided that the following qualities make a cupcake great:
The cake consistency should be fluffy and bouncy to the touch. Not too dry and not too wet as that would mean it is not baked properly. We like our cupcakes to feel like clouds.
This links with the fluffiness. A cupcake that is soft and moist on the inside, is perfect. They are sometimes over-baked and then they get a bit dry. They still taste good, but we prefer the moist ones.
Great tasting icing
The icing or topping needs to taste great and suit the type of cake. Depending on the type of icing, it should be soft or hard, or fluffy. Icing that tastes like nothing or overpowers the cake, is not the best.
Liners or cups
The perfect cupcake can be removed from the cup or liner without effort and without ruining the cupcake. It should pull away and only leave a thin layer in the liner.
When you bite into it, the perfect cupcake will melt in your mouth. The cake and the topping will go together perfectly and taste like heaven in your mouth.
The finishing touches like sprinkles, edible flowers, or candy brings it all together perfectly. These last little things should suit the cupcake and the taste and look beautiful or right for the theme.
The perfect will look too good to eat, but just for a moment and then it will taste as good as it looks. If you are not feeling the need to go out and find a cupcake or whip up a homemade batch, we think you might be broken. Eat a cupcake and everything will be fixed.
